Clean Air Northeast states selected to receive over $140 million in Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle Grants

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act's $1 billion Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program, applicants in three Clean Air Northeast states have been selected to receive funding for 489 zero-emission school buses and vocational vehicles. Each project is detailed below.

Connecticut

  • Branford Public Schools
    • Amount Awarded: $6,329,215
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 21
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.

Massachusetts

  • Boston Public Schools
    • Amount Awarded: $35,079,653
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 125
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel and gasoline school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.
  • Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District
    • Amount Awarded: $4,989,500
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 17
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.
  • Hingham Public Schools
    • Amount Awarded: $2,935,000
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 10
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.
  • Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources
    • Amount Awarded: $5,833,843
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 28
    • Under the Vocational Vehicles subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel refuse haulers, step vans, and box trucks with electric versions; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric vocational vehicles; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric vocational vehicles and charging stations.
  • Springfield Public Schools
    • Amount Awarded: $6,641,769
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 25
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.

New York

  • New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS)
    • Amount Awarded: $17,345,895
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 55
    • Under the Vocational Vehicles subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel refuse haulers, box trucks, and utility vehicles with electric versions; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric vocational vehicles; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric vocational vehicles and charging stations.
  • NYC School Bus Umbrella Services, Inc.
    • Amount Awarded: $39,035,500
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 133
    • Under the School Bus subprogram, this project includes replacing diesel school buses with electric school buses; purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging stations to support the electric school buses; and providing workforce development and training to support the maintenance and operation of the electric school buses and charging stations.
  • North Rockland CSD
    • Amount Awarded: $4,432,513
    • Number of Vehicles Replaced: 15

    • Amount Awarded: $3,360,000
